Barry, I think you are splitting hairs.  Calling a particular port on the
carburettor that is provided by the manufacrturer specifically to operate
the vacuum retard module the "vacuum retard" port is not at all out of
line.  This is what the factory put it there for.  It is not a general
purpose "vacuum only at idle" port.  They don't do that.  The fact that it
can be connected to another device doesn't change anything.  In fact you
can swap the vacuum advance and the EGR connections with no real change in
functionality. However, the assembly instructions used on the assembly
line, the inspection procedures used by QA, and the repair procedures used
by the mechanics world wide call out specific connections between a
particular port and a particular vacuum operated device.
