  Carpet stores sell a pretty good insulation/soundproofing
material that's made of recycled tires.

  It's about 8mm thick and comes in big rolls, but
it's fairly cheap. It doesn't degrade in water which
is nice, and it's pretty easy to work with.

  It sort of has the texture of a tenderized steak.
