Adrian,
there is a good chance that the "marine diesel" is cut with "biodiesel,"
methyl esters of fatty acids from vegetable oil (soybean on this side
of the pond, could be canola on yours). Dramatically reduces
particulates,
provides enhanced lubricity in diesel engines, and can be made from
any grade of waste vegetable oil, or even some vegoil refinery
by-products.
