Thanks to all that replied..

The service interval counter (ISC) was fitted to 
75 & 76 TR6 as well as some late Spits. They were 
linked to a light on the dash and every 10K miles, 
they would trigger the light as a reminder to check
the EGR valve to see if it was still working. 
This was a part of the emission system.
