The chassis itself would be body color, as are the bolt-on front suspension
turrets. Suspension components, axles and such were more or less a
"semi-gloss" black. Offhand, I don't know if the transverse rear leaf spring
was painted or not. Front coil springs were black and usually had a
"identification stripe" on the coils (usually white for the Herald).
