Brake Master Cylinder Finish

I'm rebuilding the brake master cylinder on a late TR6.

The cylinder was corroded and rusted  in some areas so I buffed it on a wire
wheel. The faint gold finish disappeared with the rust.   The result is a
satin finish.

Anyone have a suggestion for a coating that will preserve the finish?
