Here is my ten pence worth. The fault as I saw it was the circlip was
not a proper circlip, it did not have the two holes at each end to
allow the use of a circlip pliers. After many hours and two circlips
(I bought three, just in case) I drilled the missing holes, took out
my outside circlip pliers and hay presto two minutes later in
position with no stress to the clip or my nerves.
