As someone already posted, the wet liner engine was originally developed
for the Standard Vanguard around 1945, with an eye towards eventually
using it for all Standard-Triumph production, including the Ferguson
TE-20 tractor. S-T was already building tractors for Harry Ferguson,
but they used a Continental engine before the Vanguard unit was ready.
Harry sold out to Massey-Harris in 1953, and the last Vanguard-engined
tractor would've been in 58 or 59.
However, there was considerable development on the TR engine both before
the introduction of the TR2 and throughout the TR2-3-4 production.
Relatively few parts are actually common between the TR and the tractor.
