J-type overdrive problem

Hello listers
Can anyone explain why, on a J-type overdrive gearbox as fitted to a late
TR6, after the gearbox oil begins to warm up after a journey of 10 miles or
so, the overdrive remains engaged in all gears even though there is no
electrical actuation of the solenoid?
If there is an obvious solution to this problem please advise the procedure
to follow.
