Check out your local Marine Store or Boat Yard. They had all sizes of SS
clevis pins & cotter rings, etc. or one of the popular catalogues, i.e.
www.westmarine.com. My local hardware had a limited selection also.

Greg,

You might try a nail.  I know that 1/4 inch y 12 inch nails are available.
We used
to use them when we were putting up timber bracing in a mine that I used to
work
in.
