Paul,
The injectors can be of 2 types - those that have a crimped injector end,
and those with a circlip (this is more common). If you have the circlip
type - you can remove the circlip (watch that it doesn't fly - don't ask
how I know), and then push the inner part of the injector through the
body. You will need a biro tube or a piece of bundy pipe so you don't
press on the pressure tip.
Once apart, you can easily clean with brake cleaner and an airline. Refit,
and away you go.
When I installed a complete PI system on a carb car, I was getting small
obstructions for about a week, and became very adept at cleaning injectors
on the fly - using just you diagnosis, feel for pulse, if weak or missing,
pull injector while engine was running, drop a Tippex/WhiteOut bottle top
first into the injector seat (to keep the engine from stalling), and
observe the cone of spray: if missing, or just odd drops, stop engine,
clean and refit.
On the ease of fit problem -- check the O-rings and replace if needed.
