Subject: GT6 / GT6+
Key differences:
- Mk 1 had swing axle at rear end
- Bitty instrument panel
- Lower compression head
- Two white reversing lights
- No louvres to front wings or rear quarter panels.
- Mk 2 / GT6+ had much improved rear end which (IMHO) was better than
the revised swing spring on the Mk 3.
- Uplifted front bumper in line with Mk 3 Spitfire.
- Side louvres to front wings and rear quarters.
- 104BHP engine on non-US spec cars and 95 on the de-toxed version -
and it showed.
- Two speed wipers (I think) instead of fast single speed?
- Reversing lights reverted to single plinth mounted unit over rear
number plate.
- Much more comfortable seats without headrests on Mk 2, headrests on
+.
- Much imporved instrument panel layout and switchgear.
- An 'improved' gear selector mechanism that was far more troublesome
on the Mk2/+/Vitesse Mk2 than on the Mk1.
- Rattly Rostyle wheel covers that were best thrown over the nearest
hedge and replaced with Herald/Vitesse hub caps.
- GT6+ had a magnetic fuel cap while the Mk2 retained the TR version.
- Steering wheels on + varied according to the build year as did the
amount of de-toxing which progressively sapped engine power through
the addition of sealed Strombergs on +, adjustable 'polluters' on Mk
2.
- Option for Mk2's to have a 3.27 or 3.89 diff with additional
overdrive instead of either a straight 3.27 diff without overdrive or
a 3.89 diff with overdrive on GT6+.
- Restrictions on paint colour range for + not for Mk 2.
- Option for rear seat on Mk2/+ that seated a headless legless dwarf
in reasonable comfort. Sufficient residual space on rear luggage deck
for not a lot.
- 'Eared' knock-on wheel spinners for wire wheeled cars Mk 2,
octagonal earless spinners for GT6+.
- Factory fit stock slimline white walls - either Dunlop SP68 or
Goodyear G(800?)
- Factory fit driver's door mirror, not on Mk 2
