Hi Steve and list!
First, excellent summary, Steve. I consider myself a GT6+ specialist having
owned three and restored two.
The "red back up lamp" is actually a reflector! The reverse light was moved
to the centre of the car in the "monolith"...which now housed two small
plate lamps a la TR4. I suspect the reflectors were substituted for two
reasons:
1. I'm sure 1968 regulations required additional reflector area at the rear
and sides of the car (witness the side reflectors)
2. *** They had to cover the hole SOMEHOW *** I mean, can you imagine
actually <re-tooling> for this? Nu-uh.
Apparently these reflectors are hard to find. I have several as I have
parted out a 1970 spitfire and also a 1970 GT6+ - late + style. My
restoration of the yellow racer came with the late style monolith, however
the wiring harness was clearly wired for the twin reversing lamps!
One other thing I have noticed on my new car Kc 53335L (231 cars prior to
my former car BTW) is the turn lamps are amber and are not as large as the
1970 style lenses I have always had. Does anyone out there have an amber mk
I style turn lens RH out there ?
