First, happy Thanksgiving thanks to all for the advice. I received ten
replies and a summary follows:
1. Getting the fuel to the engine gave a very mixed and confusing bag; two
say convert to fuel injection, two say stay with the stock carbs, two say
switch to SU HS6s, three say go with a three carb setup from Goodparts,
three say stay away from Webers, one says add water injection (what's
that?), and one says it's too bad a supercharger is no longer available.
2. Cam; seven say upgrade to a mild street cam, but not a fast road or race
cam. One said get a new cam and not a re-ground one.
3. Headers and free flow exhaust; seven say definitely, one says no.
4. Head work; seven say mill and port the head to increase compression and
flow, one says no.
5. Pistons; four say get oversized pistons, one says use forged pistons.
6. Roller rockers; three say not worth the money for the return.
7. Flywheel; two say lighten by 10 lbs, one says do not use an aluminum
flywheel and one says use an aluminum flywheel.
8. Balancing; one says balance the engine.
9. Electric fuel pump; one says add.
10. Electronic ignition; one say add.
Now I get to figure this all out!
