As a saab and tr nut, I can add the following...
saab bought motors from triumph, over the years they refined the design, but
kepth it a similar design, through the '80's. the decent tr motor, got the
saab 99 sarted, saab bored it to a 2.0 l, used bosch mechanical fuel
injection, and called it a 'b' motor, added turbocharging in 77-78. around
'81, called it an 'h' motor, by taking the water pump out of the block,
changing the head, etc....in '85, they took the 'h' motor and put a 16 valve
head on it, with turbocharging, this motor was very impressive.
the cool thing for tr-7 folks, is that bolt locations remained the
same....so, even with the front-drive saab motor, it would bolt up to a tr-7
trans, oil pan ,etc, if you were so inclined, size and such always remained
the same.....yup, I've dreamed about a 16v, turbo saab motor in a tr-7, and
I have a friend in PA who built one.

I'll say. I used to know a mechanic at Morrie's. in Minnesota, and the
first batch of SAAB 99s they got had bad engines in them. He told me the
golden age of SAAB was coming to a close.
