Absolutely correct on the monitor variations etc.
It is also folly to try and get an exact color match from a printed document,
not matter how carefully the car was photographed, the color positive
scanned, and the negatives printed even using digital scanning and
computer-controlled 4-color process printing. With the digital scanning and
the sophisticated computer controlled process color printing presses
available today you can come real close but there simply are too many places
the "original" color can get "tweaked" in the process (including the quality
of the original image!). If you are looking for exact matches the only
accurate way is to have an actual paint chip or a paint swatch. Printed pages
and computer images are just not reliable. This is probably why some see a
yellow with some brown influences or some with green influences as viewed on
printed pages.
