Hey Listers,
I have the front snout off of the TR3 and am installing a rebuilt
radiator, oil cooler and other odds & ends. While in there, I decided to
take the grease out of the steering box and fill it with 90 weight. I
cleaned it out good and put in 90 weight which promptly started dripping out
of the bottom past the seal (the DPO was lazy, but not stupid).
I have to get the car on the road this week. It has been off the road
since June.
Questions:
1. How hard and how long is it to rebuild the box? I read the article
in the TRF glove box companion but wonder about real life experience.
2. Is it worth it to get a new worm gear put on by TRF or someone else?
3. Is the TRF rebuilt steering box service ($599) worth it?
4. Does Ken Gillanders do steering boxes?
I'll probably fill the box up with grease again and drive it that way
for another 10K miles or so and then tear it all down during the winter
months or something.
Any help would be appreciated.
