I had about 14lbs taken off... The machinist got a bit carried away.
He couldn't remember whether I wanted 10 or 12 lbs taken off. when he
got to 12 he just kept going. So far (6 years later) so good... Spin
up is a bit faster... so it spin down.

I'd leave it to a reliable machine shop... In fact, while you're at
it, have the crank and all of the moving stuff balanced at the same.
time... It's the smart thing to do.
