Graham - There is a VTR chapter based in Pinellas County. I have not been
active in the club because of distance from my side of town (North Tampa).
I'll get some more information and send it along tonight. Well - stand
corrected. The information at the VTR site is Triumph Standard Motor Club;
2518 Lk. Ellen Cir., Tampa, FL 33618; Bob Menzies, Newsletter Editor,
GT64ev4@aol.com, 813-968-3731 - so maybe that has changed. I'll have to
check.
As to listers, there is Philip Smith and myself for sure. There might be
others.
You won't find the varying terrain like there is in the midwest. Around
here it is mostly flat and straight. As you travel north to Ocala; Lake
City; Tallahassee there are the hills and curves that make driving a sports
car fun. It use to be that there were driving trips, but again, since I
have lost contact with the club, I'm not sure if they are still happening.
Shows - there are a few around the state in late winter/early spring and
then again in the fall - All are All-Brit type. In Tampa, there is a meet
in October and it has fallen on the weekend prior to the SE regional VTR
meet for this and the past two years. (see
http://www.arts.usf.edu/~musson/triumph/tr-tampa.html) You can figure on
4-6 shows depending on how much driving you may want to do. The various
clubs in Florida are listed on the VTR site and they will have links to the
events.
Disadvantages: It is hot in the summer. 90+degrees; rain showers most
afternoons; humidity in the 70-80percent range making it feel much hotter.
In Ohio, I figure you can find a "show" within easy driving almost any
weekend during the summer. Not so here.
Advantages: you can drive your TR year round - especially if it is
weatherproof. But top-down most of the time.
You can contact me off list if you have any specific questions.

Subject: Tampa Area TRs
I need some odd help. I have a job offer in the Tampa Bay area
(Clearwater). First, are there any TR clubs down there, mechanics, listers,
good roads? Second, if there is anyone on the list from that area, what
advantages/disadvantages would a guy form Ohio go through down there. Am I
crazy to let my love for my cars dictate my jobs . . . . . nah!!
Thanks in advance,
Graham Spencer
