I recently found out I had no brake lights (had them in the spring I'm
sure), and figured the switch would be attached to the brake pedal, 
.....if not there then maybe on the master cylinder.  
.....if not there, then it must be operated by hydraulic pressure and could
be anywhere, but chances are it's underneath and covered with grime and
exposed to the elements.

Art,

The switch is mounted on a block on the frame in the engine bay underneath
the carburettors and exhaust.  This is the main branch point for the lines
to the calipers and rear axle.  Also, it is on the driver's side on right
hand steer models of the home market.
