I took mine to a furniture stripper one day, picked it up the next clean as
a whistle. And the price was cheaper than a gallon of stripper!!

Best stuff I've used goes by the name "Aircraft" Paint remover. Usually
available from Auto Paint stores, and probably has all the nasty
chemicals.... It works very quickly, and all the usual precautions should
be taken for fumes, eye spatter, etc. If you have some serious multi-layer
paint to remove, slather on a heavy coat, and cover it with some
polypropylene 'cling wrap' to slow the evaporation of the solvents, and give
it half an hour or so. I tried using the environmentally 'safe' stuff, and
while it was probably OK to use as a mouthwash, it did little more than
annoy the paint I was trying to take off.

I'm trying to strip the varnish of my wooden dash panels on the Stag. The
paint and varnish remover I got from Sears only seems to remove small layers
of varnish at a time and involves a lot of scrapping.
Can anyone recommend a good varnish remover for this job?
