OK, now for my 2 cents worth.
Basically MOST quality motor oils have two ratings, one from the SAE (SE, SF,
SG, etc) and one from the API for diesels (CC, CD, etc). You will find both
markings in the same circle on the back f the container. As far as the ones
marketed for diesel engines, the usual difference between them and their
automotive use brands is that it (Rotella for example) comes in larger
containers with the one gallon "bottle" being the smallest (if you've never
done an oil change on a Cat, Cummins, or Detroit engine, you might not under
stand why). You might not find an API rating on that 75 cents a quart stuff
you see at the grocery store, it's usually only good for oiling down the
driveway and not much more.
