I got a couple responses saying that POR15 was not for use on an engine
block. When I ordered my POR15, they sent a large catalog and product
information. From reading the information , I see no reason not to use
POR15 on the block. They have done testing at 700F for 10 hours. They
recommend using it on the exhaust system from the muffler back. They also
use it as a primer on the intake manifold and engine before using the engine
enamel. The engine enamel seems to be the same as POR15 except it comes in
a variety of OEM colors. Since TR used black on engines, I simply used the
gloss black POR15. They also have Hi-temp products for exhaust manifolds
which are good for 1200-1400F.
They also have a product called Pelucid which is a clear coating, UV
resistant, suitable for use on wood. I am thinking of using it on a wooden
park bench. The finish the Chinese put on those things is worthless, and
the exterior varnishes are not much better. Has anyone used Pelucid?
Is POR available anywhere except from POR itself? I am not aware of any
retailers selling it.
