I bought a 72 Stitfire about a year ago but have driven it very little
because of transmission troubles. I finally removed the trans last week to
start a rebuild, to be ready for the spring. With the transmission out, I
see it has been marked on the bellhousing with yellow letters "74 Spit" like
a wrecking yard would do. As I'm looking at what parts I'll need for the
rebuild, I think I need to know the actual vintage of the trans, for the
clutch parts in particular, it makes a difference. Does anyone know a good
way to tell what year the trans is. It is an overdrive trans with a D-type
unit. On the left side of the case are these markings; in large cast numbers
"22C2" and further forward in smaller characters "88306468" and "V3038". Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ed Stiftar
