Hi Bill,
I bought a similar lockset for my MG some years ago and bought the TR3 set a 
few months ago.
The key indeed does not come out in the unlocked position. The glovebox is 
either locked with the key removed or unlocked with the key still inserted.
It's a minor inconvenience that I've learned to live with over the years.
