Although UV can discolor the rear window of your new top, the worst culprit is
dust and scratches. Never attempt to "dust off" the window while it is dry!
Always use plenty of water to rinse off the dust first, then use either a
proprietary cleaner (such as the ones you saw in the parts store), or plain
water and some detergent. Never use anything containing ammonia (Windex, or
most other glass cleaners)! If you still want to put something on it to
protect it from the UV hazard, try a little dab of sun screen that you would
use on yourself at the beach. As long as the window is perfectly clean, there
shouldn't be any harm in applying a little SPF 40 or the equivalent. This may
leave a sort of "greasy" film on the window, but by buffing it with a soft
CLEAN cloth, the effect may be minimal.

I'm a new lister and am fascinated with the wealth of information which is
freely disseminated...bravo. I just had the top replaced and went to all the
auto stores looking for a UV protectant, so I don't end up with a yellow
rear window. I found cleaners, but no protectors. Does anyone have a
suggestion?
Thanks,
Alan Harris
