Although the "resignation" of your OD may be caused by almost anything, my vote
goes to the electrical side of the system. The isolator switches on the top of
the shifter housing are incredibly "cheesy" even by Lucas standards! The spade
connectors are held on by some kind of rivet that is just begging to let go. I
would start by looking for current at the solenoid, then working my way back
thru the switches. Take heart, the new switches that are available from the
major parts suppliers are vastly improved versions of the original, and no
Concours judge in his right mind will ask to see under the transmission tunnel.
If there is current at the solenoid, does it work (click and move the lever)?
A new one is expensive, but at least available.
Good luck!
