At least one other source of the "motor oil in trannys" specification is the
manufacturer of the overdrive used in Triumphs, big Healeys, Volvos, etc.,
Laycock de Normanville.  They specifically warned against using hypoid gear
oil, because it can damage the OD clutch linings.  Triumph echoed that
recommendation in the original owners manual and workshop manual for the
TR2/3.
