First let me say I have only built one wet lined TR motor (a TR4 motor)
but I have built several other motors, including TR6, MGB, XJ6, Stag and
Spitfire engines. (All my own cars) I once had a similar problem with
rings not seating. I have heard of the Bon Ami trick as an old racers
trick, but that would be on engines that were being stripped down after a
few races. If the problem is rings that have not seated, just running the
car should eventually seat the rings. If the motor has lots of
miles/hours of running time and still no compression, then I would think
that some of the rings may have broken or there is another reason that
the compression is bad like a bad valve. BTW, the "fix" only uses Bon Ami
because it does not contain large particle abrasives. NEVER use Comet if
you are brave enough to try this. IMHO, I would NEVER put an abrasive in
my motor on purpose.
