Thank you to all who responded to my original posting. Taking into
account all of your expert advice, I have decided on the following
course of action:
-remove the rubber from the mounts and have the steel plates
sandblasted.
-have steel plates machined to match the dimensions of the original
rubber mounts
-weld the plates to the mounts to form a solid mounting bracket
-remove the bumper weights, as they will serve no purpose with solid
mounts
A base this solution on the fact that our area of Ohio is blessed with
relatively smooth roads, and I don't think my wife will be doing any
competitive driving (and I don't think I'll loose any points since noone
can see the mounts).
Does this sound like it will work?
