Sounds like a mini-Y2K problem - omitting the number of the decade! One
doesn't know if one's tires were made in the 70's, 80's or 90's! Ooops!! JD
(P.S. - should we call it a YiX problem - for Year 'i' times 10(X for
decade?))

Look on the sidewall for a long string beginning with "DOT". The
final three
digits indicate the year and week of manufacture.
Example: "DOT somethingsomethingsomething 125" was made during the
12th week
of 1995 (or 1985-- can't tell the decade).
