Re this recent thread. Scott Suhring was most gracious in
his comments and it's quite true that I supplied a plate for
the front of his car. This was the original number allocated
to his car when it was either delivered new in the UK to its
first owner or shipped direct as a new but 'used' car. This
was a legitimate US import tax dodge. The end reslut for the
owner was that duty was much reduced if the car had been
licensed in another country prior to importation.

Many of you have Heritage Certificates for your cars. Some
will say whether that car was licensed, and if so, what the
number was. The second two letters of the first group will
be DU, RW, VC, WK, HP, KV with a leading letter in alpha
sequence. I put the site on the web
http://www.toolbox.ndirect.co.uk/plates/ last year to enable
listers to check out Coventry numbers, what they looked like
and how the UK numbering system works. The price of plate(s)
is entirely non-profit oriented and just covers the cost of
the plate, postage and bank charges to convert US personal
checks into Sterling. There's also a tip to make your plate
stand out and to determine whether your car really was UK
delivered to the first owner or shipped direct as the tax
dodge. This alters the appearance of the plate.

I'm now going back into lurk mode.
