Hi all

I thought I would let you all know how the problem with my TR6 was finally
resolved.
The car was using oil,but only produced smoke when starting, either from cold
or if restarted hot, little or no smoke was visable during acceleration or
over run.
The head had been rebuilt 5000 miles ago with new valves, springs, and
guides, and the cylinder compressions are all 175 with only a 2psi variation.
The car was also fitted with a secondery oil feed to the head and runs with
a high oil pressure (100psi+ at cold startup droping to a min of 70psi at
hot idle).
I felt that the problem was due to a combination of the high oil pressure
and the secondary oil feed, producing a large quantity of oil and oil vapour
,which was on standing seeping past the valve guides and being burned off
when the engine is fired up.
I decided to reduce the oil pressure by shortning the oil relief spring, this
resulted in a 70psi at cold startup to a min of 45psi at hot idle. I have
also removed the secondary oil feed for the moment. My question to you all
is now that I have found the cause do I run with lower oil pressure and no
secondary oil feed or should I use one of the other possible combinations ie
high pressure no feed,or maybe low pressure with feed, all constructive
comments welcolme.
