My in-laws got me a pair of mechanic's gloves from Griot's Garage (www.griotsgarage.com, I think) last Christmas. They're fantastic. Once you get 'em dirty, though, they're impossible to get clean again. They're comfortable, tough, and really handy (pardon the pun) if you're working around hot exhaust headers, etc. Also, the thin suede fingertips do allow a surprising amount of dexterity...
