Found out yesterday that the carbs on my recently acquired TR6 had been set
very lean (the engine was hesitating slightly at steady speed). We think
the carbs were set about a year ago (to get the car past the emissions
inspection), and never re-adjusted, but this is uncertain. The car hasn't
been driven much during that time. The engine runs quite strong and isn't
showing adverse symptoms. But I've heard that running lean can burn
valves. When does "lean" get mean? How long does it take, and under what
conditions, to damage the valves?
