You should count yourself lucky - the temp gauge on my '69 TR6 PI only
has C and H markings, with a part of the white arc drawn on the gauge
between them being hollow. That is, you've got Cold - hollow square
about 5 mm wide - solid white arc - Hot. What temp do those work out to?
Buggered if I know - I only know that at the moment a "normal" temp
is around one third scale... but I also know my car's running rich
and therefore probably not getting as hot as it should be...
You guys over the other side of the world have it easy - five markings
on the temp gauge indeed, back in my day we only had three (one of them
being completely useless), and we were lucky to get those too :-)
But, seriously, if you know your car's not overheating, and the temp
gauge always shows a similar deflection, then you've got a reference
point to use to determine how the engine's going...
