Because we live in a society which has a few crazy people who like to
get into packaging at the grocery store and put strange things in your
food... so, tamperproof packaging. That, or there's a marketing expert
out there who's unclear on the concept.... (!)

Because the English language encourages mellifluousness in
pronunciation....
