I had a TR6 body done once. They don't use acid, rather an alkalai solution
with much the same results. It will destroy rust and paint, but is not
quite as good at undercoating and bondo. I'm not sure about alloys. It does
wash off , or more correctly, neutralize with water, but with cars with
spot welded seamslike TR's, the stuff is hard to get out. My TR6 seaped
after getting hit with a misting rain on the way home from the paint shop,
quite disappointing. As to the cost, I think it will be twice what you were
told, but I hope I'm wrong. BTW, we tried to prevent the seaping problem
(we thought of it in advance) by painting all the seams with PO% 15 prior
to primering. I guess a good coat of seam sealer would have been better,
but some edges just aren't sealed.
