Bob, I think Jeff said the guys at BPNW were talking specifically about
this "refurbished" TR250 cam, not the "Road Rally" cam you purchased, so it
MIGHT actually be an accurate statement. Then again, they might ALL be
crap, too!! I don't know.
As far as the cam issue, I bought a "Delta" reground cam ten years ago and
installed it in my new motor. This was before I knew about the trick of
installing the Spitfire cam bearings, so this cam rides right in the block.
That motor's covered nearly 40,000 miles since then and the cam has never
given me any trouble. It is a very mild cam... If I could find my old
competition preparation manual I could tell you what the specs are on it.
Delta told me it was a "torque improvement" cam. It doesn't lope at all,
and I'm not even sure it gave me any more power at all... I don't have a
dyno and didn't drive the car enough prior to the rebuild to be able to
compare. But, it runs and mostly it runs pretty good, and while I wish
maybe that it had a BIT more power, I'm generally satisfied.
For you cam experts out there, I have a good memory for numbers, and I'm
trying to remember the specs on this cam. For some reason, the numbers 17,
35, 35, 17 pop into my mind for the opening/closing times of the valves. I
remember comparing the specs to other cam specs and noticing that on my cam
these numbers were "symmetrical," while most other cam's specs were not.
Do these numbers seem feasible or must my memory be WAY, WAY off?
The lift and duration numbers that come to mind are 152 and 242. Again, my
brain is throwing numbers at me here as I try to remember these specs from
10 years ago. I'm FAIRLY confident of the NUMBERS, but I'm NOT confident
of what the numbers represent and don't have enough knowledge of cams to
figure it out.
Please, anyone jump in and set me straight here!
