Well folks I got up this morning and the sun was shining and it wasn't
too cold. Unusual for this time of the year in the UK. I looked at my
Eurobox on the drive, and saw that a large bird had left its calling
card on my roof.
Drat ! I'll have to wash the darm thing.......... An hour later and I
was out opening the garage to get at the hosepipe. I could smell the
gearbox oil that had leaked out on to the floor during the winter
(typical). I took a look at the covered TR4 in the garage and had a
thought. ...... I wonder if the battery is charged ? I flicked the
switch on the wall to turn on the charger and set out to clean the
Cavalier. After 15 minutes it was clean enough, so I again had a
thought - if the battery is charged, then maybe the engine will start
(all the chat about TRs on the this winter on the list has got me
impatient). I took off the cover, disconnected the charger, primed the
carbs, pulled the choke and turned the key, and twenty seconds later I
heard the sound that us 4 banger TR owners know and love -THUD THUD
THUD THUD THUD. Let's just turn the car around I decided ( I usually
leave it 'front in' during the winter but reverse into the garage
normally). I sat in the drivers seat and reversed on to the drive.
Well - as I have the car out, I may as well take it 50 yards down the
street and see if it OK. I reversed on to the street, Maybe I
should go down to the roundabout, which is a bit further and on the main
road.?
I turned left on to the main road and before I knew it I was at the
roundabout. Sod it - it all seems OK lets go around the estate .. Right
foot down - Rooaaar - Yahooo ! OK so it was a bit cold, and I had the
hood down, but I didn't notice, I was enjoying myself. No one else
particularly noticed, but I didn't care about that ! I couldn't go too
fast because there were people about. Then I remembered that I had
left the garage door open and anyone could have walked in and taken a
bike, a compressor etc etc. so I had to go back. I was only out for
five minutes and went about 2 miles but - I'd done it - the first drive
of the year, the earliest yet. If its nice tomorrow I'm going for a
proper rort around!
Thats all for now !
