Bob,
I spent some time crawling around and examining my top last night.  I'm not
sure what you mean by "the two fastening points".  The surreytop on a 4 is
fastened with about 6 threaded studs that fit thru holes in the "sil".  I do
remember removing and re-installing this.  It required hours of fidgeting,
there wasn't much room to work the washers and nuts onto the outer studs.
Little fingers would have helped.  Also, there was only enough room to turn
the nuts about 1/6 turn before the wrench hit an obstacle.  As for rubber
washers, if I have them, there completely hidden.  On the 4, there's a
rubber welt between the rear frame and the body.  I've also examined the top
of the windscreen closely.  There are no sleeves.  However, you've really
got me wondering because those holes could sure use some dressing up.  I
took some digital pictures last night, closeups on these details.  I'll send
them to you off the list and anyone else that makes the request.
