Good advice from Jack, and BTW, a very nice web page that he's done. I
would like to poll the group to try to figure out what actually can wear
out the rear oil seal, since it is a non-contact seal it seems that nothing
short of a blow from loose shavings or something in the oil would wear out
a seal. It seems that the far greater culprit is blow-by from worn rings
or stuck PCV valve, and that a lot of time and enrgy is wasted replacing
rear seals that aren't really bad. Also to be considered is leaking felts
on the rear caps, perhaps in replacing the seal and felts the leak is fixed
and the seal is given undue credit.
Just wondering,
