Hi everyone!
After pulling my driveshaft to replace the u-joint last week I
discovered gear oil leaking out the rear of the gearbox. So I checked
the front as well... Again there was evidence of leakage as old gear
oil was caked on the bellhousing. (It had that non-refined smell)
So I ordered a front and real gearbox seal from Moss which recently
came in. The rear is no problem... but the front is a mystery. I
punched the pin on the arm holding the release bearing and removed it.
I then took out the 5 bolts securing the bellhousing unit to the
gearcase. (Discovered the slave cylinder was shot by the way)
I can't find any seal--?? Anyone know why my gearbox contains no front
seal? There was a part # for it in my Moss catalog. It is like there
is nothing there to prevent oil leakage. There is a gasket between the
bellhouse and gearcase indicating oil is present at that point so
shouldn't there be a seal in the bellhousing unit somewhere to prevent
oil leakage along the shaft? Only thing a saw were some threaded
splines along the shaft opening hole in the bellhousing... surely this
isn't some form of protection? right?
Anyone know why there is no seal?
