Carl, Some states assign the vanity plates to the motorist and not the car. In the '60's a member of the South Plains Sports Car Club in Lubbock, Texas has a Spitfire with the Vanity Plate, "SPIT". He traded it in for a new Mustang and guess what the Mustang had to go around wearing for the next year!
