Richard,
You're correct, the early Spitfire (Spitfire 4 to Mk xx?) tank has the
bottom fuel line, the later have the top syphon line. It might be possible
to adapt it if you're truly desperate.
Is your tank completely shot? I have several radiator shops locally that
will clean/coat a crusty tank. I may have a tank that can be salvaged, but
I do know it'll need to be cleaned to be reliable.
