The problem with wiring the fogs directly off the headlamp switch is
that the contacts in the headlamp switch were not designed to
take the extra load (10 amps or so) that you have no imposed on them.
The contacts will wear more quickly than they otherwise would. Chances
are good that the wiring harness up to that point isn't really
happy with the load, either.
