Super Trapp

I was at a British car and motorcycle show yesterday, outside of London,
Ontario, (Canada) and saw an MGA with a Super Trapp exhaust.  Just a
straight pipe back from the manifold, and a flared black extension on
the end, with what looked like an adjustable, finned closure.

How do these work?  If they work, where are they available?

PS - no TR4's at the meet.  Lots of 6's and two nice 250's.
