Yes, I've been able to bend lines without a bender.  Usually this happens
when the line *almost fits* and I don't feel like galloping back down into
the basement to get the bender.

I suggest you get some 3/16 brake hose from the auto supply and practice a
bit before playing with the new line.  It is easier to add a curve than to
remove one; and I don't think kinks are removeable at all.

A good trick is to wear soft pants and use your knee to give a "radius" -
less likely to kink then.

Be prepared for disappointment!!  My engine sure is grumpy.  I only got it
to "putter" once and then I foolishly turned it off.  The electrics are
all getting the "once-over" before I try again.
