apologies to long-term listers since i'm sure this has been covered more
than once:
in looking for the cause of the high idle (1,500 rpm) on my 76 TR6, i
noticed the EGR valve was frozen (it probably froze 10 years ago when the
car was put up in a barn with 50 k on it). i followed the rather sparse
directions in the bentley manual for cleaning and freeing it up. the EGR
seemed to work fine until i reinstalled it--there is still absolutely no
movement up or down regardless of what i do with the throttle. there is
a strong vacuum at the brake servo, but i wasn't able to detect any
vacuum coming off the tiny suction line leading from the rear carb to the
EGR. (i checked it directly at the carb nipple.) i presume this vacuum
is what draws the bellows on the EGR and operates the valve??? oh, yeah,
the bellows seemed fine when i had it on the bench.
sounds like a pretty good vaccum leak at the servo, but when i remove the
hose the engine almost stalls. i tested the EGR with the servo hose
plugged just to make sure. do these problems (high idle; frozen EGR)
sound separate or related? any suggestions for fixing either or both?
thanks
