Roughly speaking, you are. It is an indication of the dwell angle (aka.
mark-space ratio in other circles) which depends on the point gap. The
reading you get is in the right ballpark, and nothing to worry about.

They have built in RFI suppression, hence the 1k. This is correct, and
the resistance has negligible influence at the high voltage levels we are
talking about here.
